ÓLKA is a wall tiles collection brand deeply inspired by the indigenous Cabécar culture of Costa Rica. Rooted in their profound connection to nature, ÓLKA's visual identity reflects the vibrant palettes and intricate beauty of the natural world. The brand’s bold colors echo the richness of flora and fauna, while its iconography harmonizes with the product design, drawing from the playful symmetry and mysterious intricacy of Costa Rican wildlife. As the lead designer, I created the wall tile designs, developed their packaging, and designed the product displays with detailed assembly instructions. I also managed the brand’s visual identity, produced 3D visualizations, and designed product catalogs, ensuring a cohesive presentation that strengthened the brand’s presence and communicated its unique value to customers.
Logo mark
The logo mark features the brand's initial, which carries the Spanish accent. This creates a visual hierarchy and serves as a bold representation of the brand's identity.
Word mark
The primary logo features the brand name, ÓLKA, which means path or trail in the Cabécar language. A line crossing through the word creates a negative space, symbolizing this path between Costa Rica's indigenous cultures and modern civilization.
Icons
The icons, like the logo, use negative space and balanced line work to reflect the harmony of nature. Inspired by the wall tiles, they are built from simple blocks forming cohesive compositions, with vibrant colors highlighting Costa Rica's rich biodiversity.
